We formed from a small group of fanatic Half Life 2 Death match players. I (lolsmurf) was the owner of a server. After several updates by steam the HL2 DM community was left in the wake of the CSS and TF2 community, seeing that Valve showed a preference for those communities. So we went and looked for free games that we could host.
People at my workplace told me about Trackmania, so me and Haagsesmurf decided to set up a server. This server got very popular from the very first day. Because of the great work I and the admin team did, the server got as far as it is now and we will keep up the work to make sure the server stays one of the best in Holland. Seeing the success of the Trackmania server I decided to register the www.smurfen.net domain. And that became our website/forum.
Even though our Trackmania server was doing better than ever I didn't enjoy it that much so I went looking for a new project. One of our admins pointed me in the direction of BF2 AIX 2.0 and I have been hooked ever since. This server has been online for 2 years and the number of players is still rising.
Even though we had 2 servers online I, restless me, started looking for another project, this became Call of duty 4 and this server is also getting more successful every day.
The problem is that most modern games require to rent a dedicated server and costs way too much money and seeing as we are a funtag and not a clan, we like to keep matters in our own hand. So recently we bought our own dedicated server which allows us to host even more games.
